Bible Verses for Strength When You Feel Weak

A moment of scripture and reflection for your heart today.

You're Not Alone in This

There’s a particular kind of pain that comes from feeling weak when you think you should be strong. Maybe everyone around you seems to be handling life just fine, and you’re the one struggling to get through the day. Maybe you’ve prayed for strength and it hasn’t come the way you expected. Weakness can feel like failure, but it’s not. It’s simply the honest truth of being human. The apostle Paul was one of the most resilient people in the entire Bible. He survived shipwrecks, beatings, imprisonment, and constant opposition. But he also had something he called a “thorn in the flesh” — a persistent source of suffering that he never fully explained. What we do know is that Paul begged God three times to take it away. Three times. This was not a casual prayer. It was desperate pleading from a man who had reached his limit. And God’s answer was not what Paul expected.

"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."

— 2 Corinthians 12:9

A Gentle Reflection

God didn’t remove the thorn. He didn’t explain why it was there. Instead, He told Paul something that redefines how we think about strength: “My power is made perfect in weakness.” This means that the very thing you’re ashamed of — your exhaustion, your inability to cope, your breaking point — is the exact place where God’s power shows up most clearly. We live in a world that worships self-sufficiency. Admitting weakness feels dangerous. But God operates on a completely different system. In His economy, the people who admit they can’t do it alone are the ones who experience His strength most fully. If you feel weak today, you are not disqualified from God’s work. You are positioned for it. Your weakness is not the end of the story. It’s the place where grace begins.

How did God respond when Paul begged for his suffering to be removed?
